On Tuesday, January 21, the Aachen Graphene & 2D Materials Centers will host a talk by Prof. Sergio Valenzuela, from the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA) and the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2).
Valenzuela, who has recently won an ERC Proof of Concept Grant to develop scalable ultrafast non-volatile memories based on topological insulators, is an expert in spintronics and, in particular, of spintronics in graphene and other 2D materials. One of his main early contributions has been the Direct electronic measurement of the spin Hall effect.
In his talk, Valenzuela will present the recent results from his group on spin dynamics in graphene-based van der Waals heterostructures, focusing in particular on proximity induced spin-orbit coupling and spin-to-charge conversion in stacks of graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC) and in graphene in contact with metals.
The abstract of his talk can be downloaded here. The seminar will take place at 12:00 noon in the Physikzentrum, in room 28A301.
